2Don't buy via FGS Trading

I purchased this phone to take on a trip to South America. The phone arrived the day before my trip. I ordered late so this arrival date was expected. I purchased this phone because I needed an unlocked quad band phone. When I opened the box there was not users manual. I turned the phone on only to find out that the phone was manufactured for European usage. The screen language was some unreadable Eastern European language. Czch, Polish, I don't know. I spent several hours trying to hack my way around the set up. It was apparently asking for various codes to initiate the phone. I have a full size android phone so I figured I could figure out how to get into settings and change the language to English. However, I could not get past the two entry screens that were asking for some kind of code. I had no idea I was buying an Easter European phone. The description on Amazon was not clear that I would need a language decoder to figure out how to turn the phone on. Of course, FGS trading does not have a customer service phone number. You must attempt to communicate via email. After I finally got a response, they basically were of no help and told me that I should have know it was a European phone. Thanks FGS! I finally decided to call the SIM chip provider while sitting in the Miami airport. They took the time to help me try to figure out the missing code situation. Finally, after an hour on the phone with them, I got the phone past the sign in problem and was able to get into settings and change the language. I think it is really poor service to send a phone to a customer with no explanation that they are not going to be able to read the phone when they turn it on. If FGS is going to send a Eastern European phone to a US customer, they should, first make it clear with bold print on the Amazon page that this is not a US phone. Second, they should include a "cheat sheet" in the box that explains how to get past the unreadable log in process to initiate the phone.

As for the phone itself. I had poor reception in Latin America. Not sure if this was the phone of the SIM company I chose. I have since used the phone in the South Pacific with a Vodifone SIM and had very good reception. Be warned, this phone is tiny. I have a Samsung Galaxy so I assumed this Galaxy would be of similar size. Wrong. The "Y" stands for "Youth" which apparently means it is designed for a tiny hand. Read the small print on the Amazon page about the dimensions.

5The Android smarphone for people who wants QWERTY keyboard

I bought this smartphone for my wife because she wanted a cell phone with QWERTY keyboard and Android OS. The phone is excellent for the price with many features such as GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth, FM Radio, etc. Something I didn't know before was that this smartphone has a trackpad in the center button too, and thats great when you don't want to scroll touching the screen.

3Can't complain

This is my third smartphone during the last 12 months. Earlier I lost an iPhone 4 and Samsung Infuse 4G. This time round I wanted a cheap, unlocked phone to ride out my contract.

It took me a little while to get used to the small screen; my previous phone had a 4.5" screen. But after a week of use I've grown used to its size and the physical keyboard is nice to have.

I live in NYC and the local express delivery was just $9 and I got the phone the very next day. (It was cheaper than 1 day and 2 day delivery actually).

The 3G won't work on AT&T in USA - it'll just use Edge. But since 3G doesn't work the battery life is great (I get more than 24hrs).

The phone was new but the box I got was clearly already opened. This phone was not designed for the American market and I suppose the seller probably opened it to put the Europe-to-America power adapter which is fine but then the hands-free earphones were missing (can't run the FM Radio without it).

This phone shipped with a buggy firmware. The phone kept thinking that the SD card had been removed. Had to upgrade it using Samsung Kies. Kies is really really terrible and is easily the worst piece of software that I have ever used (makes me appreciate how simple it was to work with iTunes). It took several failed attempts (including one where the phone went into firmware recovery and wouldn't boot anymore) to get this thing running the latest version. Fortunately the problem is now resolved.

It comes with ~256MB of RAM, ~180MB of internal storage and a 2GB Micro-SD card.

The internal storage is just too less and will fill upon installing just a few apps. Moreover not all apps allow installing to SD card. Had to run adb (part of Android SDK) to change some settings which makes the SD card the default install target. But even then some amount of data gets installed on internal storage with each app and you will soon run out of space.

I guess all of this is part of the 'Android Experience'. Things were much better with the iPhone - I had issues with the Infuse 4G (had to fight with Kies then too). Upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread on the Infuse was a royal pain. I don't expect this phone to ever receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update, but at least it comes with Gingerbread already.

All in all, I can't really complain. I've resolved the problems that I had and I have an unlocked smart phone with great battery life running gingerbread for $140.

2Skype Doesn't Work!

This phone has all the features you will need, however it's got a lot of limitations that makes it frustrating. The touch-screen is very small, and difficult to use, and many programs don't display correctly. After 3 months, my vibration alert quit working, and Samsung won't honor the warranty since I bought it at a kiosk in the middle of Guatemala.

Pros:
A lot of features. GPS, WIFI, FM Radio, Bluetooth, Media player, Camera,...
Plenty of available apps, including Facebook, Email, Maps, Amazon Kindle, Document readers, and many more.

Cons:
Skype doesn't reliably work! I've checked with customer service, and the small screen doesn't meet the specs required by Skype.
The WIFI gets very poor reception on many networks.
Battery life is very short when using the features of the phone.
Loudspeaker is clear, although weak compared to similar phones.
CPU is too slow to several programs simultaneously.

I open the phone,android work very nice,is 4.1.2 and the phone is very fast,reactiv,solid,nice look to with hd screen.
The call is ok,the camera is realy 5 mo front and 13 mo back,he make a very nice pictures and vidéos.
Play store work well,wifi to,i need just try 3g but thonk is ok to.

5Great phone for Euro travel

Recently I went to Holland, Belgium and France, getting a sim chip for each country. The phone worked flawlessly. I used it as a MP3 player. A camera. A gps. Loved it. As for the GPS, I was surprised that it could locate me without using a data network.

The phone is on the smallish side, but when traveling I don't need a full-sized phone. That did have an advantage as it was one less bulky thing to deal with.

What sucks is that I come back to the US, where you just can't buy a simm someplace and just use it. You have to join a f'n network.

3Very small, even for petite fingers, otherwise good phone.

Before I get to it I'm not going to discuss the features here because they are all listed in the product information above.

That said, we bought three of these phones because we are both upgrading to data plans/smart phones and we're planning a trip, later this year, to the UK. We didn't want to have to buy a smart phone now and an International one later, so this seemed like the logical solution. We use T-Mobile in the US.

I was a little disappointed when I read the reviews. Much of what I wanted to know didn't exist, and so I thought I'd share them so you'll know.

The first thing to know is that the phone is designed for Australia, but it does work in the US. There are a number of Australian apps that come preloaded on it.

One thing that seemed relatively essential is what comes in the box. For whatever reason, it is not mentioned here, so here is what comes with it.

* Phone (obviously) that has about a 75% charge.
* Navigon maps of Australia and New Zealand are pre-loaded (or the leaflet in the box says it is, I've not yet figured out where they are, not that I need them).
* A charger cord that is native to Australia, but it also comes with a US adapter that works fine.
* A 2GB micro SD card.
* A micro SD card adapter.
* A quick start guide (there is NO full manual, but you can download the UK pdf; see the link in the comments of this review).
* White ear plugs.
* An Australian recycle-your-old-phone bag (totally useless here in the US).

I don't much care for the way the contact list works (you have to type the entire name, which is an ancient technology), but maybe that's an Android issue. In any case, there are plenty of free Contact apps that you can use to replace it.

Its worst problem is its size. I thought it sounded big enough, by the specs listed, but it isn't. I have relatively small fingers and even for me trying to type on it is a neat trick, at best. I highly recommend getting an inexpensive stylus, if you insist on buying it.

If I could afford it, I would return these due their small size and typing issues, but because of the current administration of this country, I do not have that luxury. We will simply have to grin and bear it.

Its good points are that it is fast, so long as you have an appropriately sized micro SD card and it's easy to use. It doesn't take long to figure out how to use it at all. Again, this was my first foray into the smart phone technology so for a newb it was easy. That says a lot.

All in all it is a decent phone, except for its size.

5easy phone for older folks

at first it was great everything I wanted,, but today it is no longer working the battery is not charging,, i tried three other batteries same thing, i am very very upset now,, this has happened to me before with the same item-- i thing now that the product has a defect in its manufacturing ,, because the battery will not take a charge. i am not happy anymore with the product i wasted 74.00 on.
