I felt heavy and thick when I held it first. I did not like that part. also, ring tones and alarm tones are not that great. size is reasonably small. touch screen and functions work well.

5Great phone/tablet for the money!
By JJ
First of all this review is taken from the standpoint of value. There are things about this phone that aren't as good as the Galaxy Note 2 but then again you are only paying about $225 without a contract compared to $650.
The screen of the phone has a great resolution at certain angles, it gets kind of dark and shaded if you hold it at the wrong angle. To get the best picture, the top of the phone needs to be held slightly farther away from your face. Call quality is good and the phone is surprisingly smooth for only having a dual core processor.
The phone has a "reset" option that will clear out the RAM and generally help with the speed of the device, this should probably be done once a week. The phone actually has a fast "boot up" so it's not that bad. This won't delete any of your saved files just temporary stuff that you don't need.
It takes decent pictures and videos I am very critical in this respect so they are probably pretty good compared to some other devices. It says in the settings that it takes 8 megapixel photos but I haven't checked that yet.
It links well with the android marketplace using my existing Google login. It is large but let's face it, you know that when you buy it. It's not as user friendly as some higher end devices and it takes a little getting used to but I didn't mind it for the savings.
I am using it on AT&T and it works well with their edge data net. I am going to be changing to Straight Talk and I will update this review once I know how it works with that service, should be the same as AT&T. Overall this is a very nice phone for the money!

Update 1-7-13
Something else I should mention, and I apologize for not saying this sooner, I do not have 3G service where I live. I will be traveling to a 3G area this weekend and will update this with the results. Also if you buy this phone and have a hard time getting the data to work, give it time. It took the phone about a half hour to "learn" the IP and connect well for data. There should be shaded arrows in the signal strength indicator, if they are there it will work for you.

Update 1-15-13
I was in an area with 3g service this weekend and the phone changed to a different mode and began downloading faster. It has an 'E' displayed next to the signal strength indicator normally. It changed to an 'H' and started clocking 3g speeds. I also found an area where it changed to a 'G' and started working at even faster speeds. I'm not sure what that means, maybe 4g? I know the area has it but I didn't think this phone could use it. Don't take my word for it but the phone was downloading very quickly. That should be it for the updates, I will continue to answer questions in the comment area. Thanks for looking!

1WATCH OUT FOR THESE: (Test immediately)System settings lock up, Bluetooth Freezes Wi-fi works intermittently
By CK
WARNING: Do not Get stuck with a piece of crap! and waste endless frustrating days like I did as you may not test these issues UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE! CAVEAT EMPTOR (Latin for - buyer beware!)

FACTS:
1. I ordered this PADPhone 6.0" AMOLED Screen, Android 4.0.9 OS MT6577-1.2GHZ Black Color on February 23 2013 from Amazon for my Dad.
2. I am very familiar with the Android operating system: I own a Samsung Galaxy 2 bought couple of years ago, right here from Amazon.
3.I manage a android software development team for mobile application development. (by virtue of our work we techies tend to be more patient with technology when it comes to making it work).
4.Previously, I have ordered from Amazon and been very pleased with the products sold here till I placed this order based on the "Great Reviews".

QUESTION: Am I the only verified Amaazon buyer of PADPhone 6.0" AMOLED Screen, Android 4.0.9 OS MT6577-1.2GHZof who has documented these problems (since most others have written just GLOWING reviews????)

ISSUES:
WATCH OUT FOR THESE: (Test immediately)

1. CHECK YOUR SCREEN: I noticed that it appears to me as if the seller sent me a used product. (which I would even be glad to overlook considering the hours (days I have spent trying to get this piece of junk to work!). The charger tip seems slightly bent but I would have been willing to live with those superficial inconveniences provided the product performed as promised.
2. CHECK IF GPS TRULY WORKS: I downloaded several compass programs from Google Play Store and the GPS would not work (I have the same compass programs on my Samsung galaxy 2 working). I spent 5 days trying to trouble shoot it to no avail. Do not be fooled if google maps work because it uses cell towers for triangulation as a substitute gps. (DONT BE FOOLED BY GPS ICON blinking) verify that it WORKS!
3. TEST Wireless Connectivity ASAP: To this date I am fed up (today is April 9 2010. The wifi locks up and when it works it work intermittently. The settings screen lock up at the most inopportune time as well
4. BLUETOOTH CRAPS OUT: I've spent 2 DAYS trying everything to get it to work with ANY blue tooth device. It detects a bluetooth device intermittently and freezes ???
5. QUALITY: This product was not shrink wrapped. Batteries are wrapped like a piece of used chocolate in a silver foil---! Just how did this phone make it through quality control! May be I am dumb but I don't see a website, a tech support number! try a Google search on PadPhone! as of today April 9, 2010 there is HARDLY any support or search items to be found!

QUESTION: My question to you is How in the world are people giving glowing reviews for this product!!! Am I the only one who had a bad experience with this product? Are these reviews by individuals (who have posted positive reviews) truly verified Amazon buyers of this product?

Please do yourself a favor and atleast test the 4 of the 5 ISSUES that I have documented immediately upon receiving the PADPhone 6.0" AMOLED Screen, Android 4.0.9 OS MT6577-1.2GHZ (also is it really 1.2 Ghz??)

CONCLUSION: I am returning this product and I am very disappointed as I was mislead into believing that this was a good product when my experience has been clearly otherwise. I hope your experience is a positive one.

5Good phone, good product, depends on your patience and tech level.
By D. Sion
I order this phone with a little draw back due to lack of reviews. I own, Samsung Galaxy II and Samsung Galaxy, Iphone 3, so I have "been trained" to expect certain things and be able to put up with a lot of crap from the "big companies". Apple tights your hands behind, Sprint is not far from them, they ask you for more and more money for each functionality. T mobile used to be behind but a better company, nowadays.
So here is the new Pad Phone. Pretty big but GREAT for reading the WEB, We pay so much for premium and barely can see what is on the browser, slowly moving from page to page etc. Email and Internet is good to the device. The video player is great, 16:9/4:3 full screen and even more a little window pop up after you push the home sign, it stays on top and let you navigate and do other things inside the phone. Signal with a T mobile Sim is good. Camera is good as well. Do not expect a Canon quality it is a phone camera for God sake but enough for pics on the road and sharing great moment.
One thing you have to get it and accept: leave it alone when it is plug in, it just can not handle many function at that moment.
I think this is the reason that you are getting 2 battery for a good coverage of the day regardless of the plug in charge or not.
Would I recommend this phone? YES, I have no perks for writing this, but I am sick of all this big Corporations overcharging and on top of that keep you as a milking cow.

5Excellence Found
By Winter
I've had my Galaxy S (or "Captivate") phone for a year now, I'm still enjoying it very much today. I'll take a little bit of time here to separate what's great about the Captivate that's specific to the phone, versus what's great about a Droid-based smart phone in particular.

First off, the Android OS is really very enjoyable. The top-level screen can have 5 pages of whatever you like and the Applications area neatly organizes installed apps separately, to page through them as well. If you're not familiar with this concept, think of the top-level screen as being similar to the Windows or Mac Desktop and the Applications area as being similar to the Start Menu/Launch Bar of your favorite computer OS.

The best thing about the Captivate is the hardware: the screen really takes up almost all of the phone's face, and it's vivid, colorful, and bright. The battery cover is a slick one-two slide that makes it easy to access without being the first thing to fall off if you drop the phone. The 1GHz processor inside the phone makes apps speedy, and I even find it to be fairly nimble about data use, easily grabbing onto my favorite Wi-Fi networks when I'm in range, then switching seamlessly over to my data network when I'm not.

Then we have the good things about the Captivate: calls are clear, I've had strong and clean reception even when I notice a drop in bars, and on those rare occasions I step into a dead zone, it seems to try its very best to hang on to the call...I can't explain it in technical detail, it's just the gut impression I get when I've driven or walked through areas that typically give me trouble on any phone and against all odds I stay connected (my office, for instance, is up against a cliff wall that closes further in near the top of the building). One complaint about this phone (and many smart phones) has been battery drain, but I find it manageable: if I choose to use the Power Toolbar (built-in and easy to add) and Advanced Task Killer app (a separate download, and a must for any smart phone owner), I can go 2 or 3 days on a single charge. Usually it's easier to top it off at the end of the day or leave it plugged in when I'm not going to be using it for a while. While the Captivate seems very wide, it is also very slim and thus surprisingly light. I added the carbon-fiber hard case to the outside and it still weighs noticeably less than an iPhone 4.

Using the Captivate is fairly simple: the connector port for the charger or a data cable are one and the same: a "micro" USB connector with a tiny sliding door to keep dirt out. I much prefer this to the plastic peel-away tab that usually comes off in your hand if you're not careful. The charger that comes with the phone also pops apart into a data cable, allowing you to detach the AC outlet prongs and connect to the computer. And last, the navigation buttons are just four touch-sensitive spots along the base of the screen, with a slide rocker on the left side of the phone (for volume) and an unlock button on the right. I've heard people say it's hard to pinch a button on one side without accidentally hitting the other (such as turning down the volume when you go to unlock the phone), but I haven't had this problem.

More on the OS: using Android 2.1 (now FROYO), I find myself discovering neat little features that I enjoy. For example, some of the wallpapers are interactive with the touch screen. When I'm playing music, if I need to pause, I don't have to unlock the phone: a tiny CD logo appears in the top with controls for pause/next/back. The "Swype" feature of the OS is extremely responsive. I didn't have to adjust any of this - the sensitivity really seems balanced between "must mash to get a response" and "breathed on it and accidentally deleted something". Unlocking the phone requires a tap of the button and a swipe along the touch screen. Even the tilt--a feature that began to annoy me in my Nokia phone--seems to both be quick to respond and easy to correct if you didn't mean to rotate the screen. The 2.2 update of the Android OS came out a few months ago and it's been a nice series of subtle ways the features are improved--for example, it's now easier to manage connecting to a PC.

Much as I enjoy this phone, all is not perfect. The buttons sometimes don't respond properly. There are times I have to tap twice, and there are times I try to hit 'back' and accidentally hit 'search' instead. I'm not sure how much of that is in the programming, the hardware, or my thick thumbs. The Search window is extremely handy, but it doesn't always frame the search properly. For example, I might be in an app that has a long list of items on the screen, and search will zoom down the list straight to the item I'm looking for...and then in another app the search might launch a web browser and search the Internet for what I typed in. I haven't really learned a good way to scroll down a long screen: often I have to just flick downwards again and again until I get where I'm going. And probably the most annoying feature is the actual call interface. I haven't taken that final step to voice-activate my favorite call list, so when I manually drill into my contacts or favorites to find someone to call, it seems to require more steps than it should to place a call: find the contact, tap their picture, tap the "phone" icon, if they have two numbers associated with them you have to specify which, and then you get to tap "call".

There have been some complaints about the fact that the camera lacks a flash. It is a shame that this feature is missing, but apart from that I have to say that the pictures I have taken with the phone have been excellent, better than the first digital camera I purchased years ago and definitely better than the last phone I had, which did have a flash. The interface for the phone is dirt-simple, and can even lock in standby mode, in case you want to tuck it away for a bit but be ready to shoot with a tap of the unlock button. The Gallery app in the Android OS does a snappy job of both organizing my groups of pictures and in making it easy to flip through: clean thumbnails tell me at a glance which collection of pictures I'm looking at so I can select the group I want to view.

If you're in the market for a smart phone and you'd like to try the Droid OS, I can't say enough about the Captivate. It's got a brilliant screen, speedy hardware, and runs the OS quite smoothly. Despite its flaws, this is quite an excellent smart phone, whose benefits far outweigh its drawbacks.

USEFUL TIP: when connecting to a computer, it's not immediately obvious how to make it work, and a lot of people are having problems. When you connect the cable, the "Smart Phone (Kies)" option doesn't appear to work. Instead, you have to choose "USB (mass storage)"...which then still doesn't make the phone's files and folders show up in Windows--in Windows 7 it will just tell you a Samsung Captivate has been connected to the computer, but you can't "see" it. You have to take one extra step: from the main screen, access the pull-down menu. You will see "USB Connected" in the list of notifications. Tap that, and you'll get a prompt to "Mount" the phone. The moment you do this, everything works: the phone maps two drives (one for the phone's memory, one for your memory card) and you can access files and folders just as you do on a USB "thumb" drive. This is a little easier to understand in 2.2, but can still be confusing if you don't get the idea that "connecting" also requires "mounting".

4Excellent smartphone, with a few niggles.
By Brian
After using this phone for a week, I've fallen in love with it.

- Interface is very snappy.
- The screen is incredible. Very bright and the colours are outstanding, and just the perfect size.
- The AllShare app for playing content from a UPnP server is nice. At home, I can store my entire collection of music and videos and play whichever I want.

That said, there are a few issues I encountered:

- Interface, despite its speed, occasionally freezes. I was worried when this occurred an hour after I started using it, but it's only happened a few times since then. Usually lasts no more than 10 seconds.
- No flash for the camera. I'm given to understand that an LED flash is common on smartphone cameras these days, so low-light photos aren't as good as they can be.
- Camera again: no dedicated button, so taking pictures is a bit awkward. Definitely turn on the anti-shake feature.
- AllShare is a little finicky sometimes about detecting media servers. Moreover, the player is a little deficient next to the normal Android video player (it stretches videos to conform to the screen's aspect ratio, and I haven't discovered a way to return the video to its native aspect ratio).
- Battery runs out fairly quickly if your browsing the internet or watching videos all day. Haven't had a chance to test it on pure standby yet, but you aren't likely to go a whole day if you're using the "smart" part of the smartphone.

Even though I listed more issues than positives, the phone is very good and I would recommend it to anyone. All the other aspects of the phone are common to other Android sets and should be well known to Android lovers. The Samsung additions to the UI such as Daily Briefing (weather, stocks and news in a widget) and the seven homescreens are nice touches, but not particularly a deal breaker, and I haven't tried any of the other Samsung apps.

An additional note: this phone is really, really light and thin. While some other reviews have thought it too "plasticy", I absolutely love the build. I can use it all day.

The input method, Swype is also on by default, but you can get this on other Android phones. Very nice, though, and a nice thought from Samsung. Check out some videos on Youtube of it, but I also have to say that it's hard to say how nice this function is without using it yourself.

Some other details: this version is the 8GB internal memory model. For Americans and countries using similar power sockets, since this is the international version the charger it comes with is the Europlug style. You'll need to get either a converter or your own plug with a micro-USB connector.

4Best device so far. Love it.
By H. Sachan
Samsung Galaxy S (as Samsung Vibrant for T-Mobile)

I have been using Smartphones since a long time and my last device for HTC HD2 was a great `first impression' phone but the fascination died in couple of months. More on that in my HD2 review. Since that experience I was hesitant to buy a similar device with Android OS but so far this device has everything I want and hasn't disappointed me once.

Display: The screen is amazingly clear and crisp. The included movie Avatar does a good job showing off the phone and the screen. No hesitation or flickering or pixilation whatsoever.

Quick and very responsive interface. The device boots up in 30+ seconds but once it's completely up and running (in 60+ seconds) after starting services like media scanner, it is quick in everything you do. Never experienced any lag.

The default buttons on the device bottom (Menu, Home, Back/Return, and Search) are very helpful. Specially in the case where you click on a link from and email and it opens in the browser, you can always click on the back button to go to the email. This is very useful for someone who is used to Windows devices where its difficult to go back to Email app once you open another app. The Back button works on the device across apps. Very cool.

When you are using the phone at night it might be difficult to find those four buttons at the bottom when the back light turns off, but you get used to it and slowly figure out where the buttons will be. Nothing major.

Pictures are very clear and crisp. Even when compared to HD2 in low light, these come out so much better.

Battery is slightly better than HD2 but pretty much at par when using 3G data or videos. It would need daily charging is you use good amount of 3G.

Android marketplace is a plus when compared with Windows Mobile 6.5 devices. But Windows Phone 7 is supposed to change that.

It comes with two back cases, not sure why. But would have preferred a leather or rubber case like HD2.

The T-Mobile version also comes with 16GB installed and 2GB card. The MicroUSB <-> USB cable comes with USB adapter charger so you carry only one cable.

Some issues or nice to have features:
Front camera for video calling would be nice.
No Flash light for the camera. So no flash light app as in HD2.
It comes with many apps which are either just a link or require you to register or will get you to sign-up for a subscription. So be careful about what you sign up for since some of these will give you a month free and then unless you call them, they'll keep charging.

-- After couple of weeks of usage --

Its still a great device so far. Few things worth mentioning:
* Really could use a front facing camera for video calling. The non-US version has one but it was removed for ATT and TMobile in US.
* The camera quality is amazing. Even the various built-in affects like action-shoot, panoramic shots are a great addition where you can shoot a 270 degree pictures and it stitches them all together. I lets you take 8 pictures while guiding you how to move and then creates a wonderful panoramic picture. Amazing.
* Battery life seems much better than that of HTC HD2
* The GPS is flaky. The applications like Four Square don't connect to it well unless you open the Google Navigation first to connect with GPS and then open other apps that use it. Samsung is supposed to come out with an updated software in Sept to fix it. But not a deal breaker.
* Still a great snappy interface.
* Android marketplace has some great free apps, but still not as good as Apple. I'm sure that will change overtime as android marketplace is 'free' as compared to Apple where they take a cut.

Overall, I'll still recommend it.

About the dealer: No issues. Prompt deliver. Got phone on time. Only thing is they could put more details about the phone up, but otherwise great experience.

About the phone: we all know that wp8 is a new OS. With that being said they have alot of catching up to do in minor areas and you can see the leaps and bounds they are making in regards to apps and hardware. And this phone is one of the best. No issues I love this phone. Colors are great, fluid movement, live tiles are definetly a feature I love from my other windows phone. APP store is vastly improving and adding apps at a rate that is astounding. Nice big screen, People Hub and Me Tile intergration is great for ppl who like everything in one neat place. There are other features way to numerous to mention. If you want to know more, make that switch to WP8. Trust me you wont be dissapointed.

In between my WP7 and this one I had an Iphone 4s then made the move to Samsung S3. Tired of static tiles and all the other rhetoric of android and IOS. I am happily back where I belong.I really dont think I will ever make the switch back to either of those OS's.

4ativ s i8750

I really like this windows phone, it fits the hand nicely, battery life is fine, works with net10 (using at&t). One thing I don't care for is 3times it has restarted itself, the first time may have been legit, went through a known dead zone, but the other times were at home where at&t is fine. I also love the fact that it has a removable battery which is getting harder to find nowadays.

As far as windows, I love it better than android, it isn't always getting bogged down by anything whereas in android google services is always slowing things down. Also love having microsd card as expanded memory. Could there be improvements on windows phone, sure all os's could use improvements. There are things I would like to see but others may not need , such as file explorer, but give Microsoft time and this will be even better.

Finally, it is a shame Samsung did not release this particular unit in USA because I think it would have been a big success.

One more thing if you are switching from microsim to minisim, either buy a new simcard, or use a simcard cutter. I had an at&t microsim that I had cut by hand and had to tape in place because I could not make the little notch on the side that latches it in place. No longer have that problem when I got minisim from net10.

5The best Windows Phone 8 device to date
By B. Miller
This is a device that I had been waiting some time for. It has everything a large, HD display, removable battery and Micro SDXC up to 64GB. Performance is smooth, as is to be expected from a device of this price range. The device looks great and feels even better in hand. Battery life is good, I spent all day trying to run down the battery and 3 hours after the low battery notification it finally shut off. Everything I could ant and more in a phone.

3Nice phone with limitations for US T-Mobile users
By Paul S. Remington
The Samsung S3 Mini is a lite version of the Samsung S3 smartphone. It sports a smaller 4” screen with a resolution of 480x800 and is an entry-level phone compared to the more pricy and feature-packed S3. This phone does not support 4G, which is curious since the S3 does. It supports 2G and 3G, as long as it works well with your carrier.

And this is the part of the review where I state a friendly warning. The vendor selling this phone states the phone is compatible with GSM carriers, such as AT&T and T-Mobile. This may not be entirely true.

I purchased this phone while setting up service with T-Mobile here in the US. I wanted an unlocked phone that my wife could use with our new service. The vendor sent us a Samsung S3 Mini “Orange” phone that originated in Europe and had European firmware installed on it. While the phone worked fine and upgraded itself properly, we were never able to get any speeds more than 2G with a data speed of about 100Kbps, which is painfully slow. The smartphone was unable to host any smooth streaming media due to this slow bandwidth.

I then learned that the phone does not support the US T-Mobile 3G transmission frequencies. It will work with T-Mobile, but only at 2G speeds. If you live in the US and plan to use this phone with T-Mobile as your carrier, expect only to use 2G service. This may be fine for some people. If it is, this phone is worth considering.

The charger is an international charger that comes with a North American adapter. The phone comes with a pair of headphones and a battery. It does not come with an SD card, case, or protective cover, as is typical with cell phones in general.

We were able to return the phone and get our money back from Amazon. Amazon is very good about returns. While this phone didn’t work for us and it was advertised to work with AT&T and T-Mobile, in fairness to the vendor who sold it, they also do say that “not all carrier features may be supported.” You're best to take this into consideration before purchasing this phone.

5Great phone, perfect size.
By Ed
Delivery in 2 days, new factory unlocked phone in un-opened box with all accessories advertised. I,m in rural NW USA, did a speed test and got data speeds of 3mb/s on sim1 AT&T, not sure about sim2 H2O yet. You have to choose witch sim you want to receive data from, not both at the same time.
Edit: After a few weeks use, I noticed the battery life on this phone is very good. I can normally get 12 hours standby with checking emails a dozen times or so and a couple phone calls, checking out a couple web sites, etc. and still have 80% battery left. Checking speed test in the city (Seattle) I was getting 6mb/s. The dual sim function allows me to carry one device for work and personal with different ringtones of my choice, work and personal email, text and calling. The 4.2.2 software works seamless with no lag on common apps. Haven't tried any games although.

4An amazing phone!
By CJ
This phone is amazing but ... I am with T-Mobile and the internet and apps are very slow when I am hooked to their network, however when I hook up to wi-fi the video's and internet are very quick. This isn't the phone's fault, it's either T-Mobile or our metal roof interfering with the signal. I gave it 4 stars because I am somewhat disappointed that it doesn't have a LED to alert me to new messages or emails although it will play a sound. It also has nothing to alert me when the phone is fully charged after being plugged in. I was unable to find accessories for it locally as far as cases and sleeves but I was able to find them on Amazon at very reasonable prices. Other than that it was an excellent buy and I am amazed at what all it can do. I actually purchased 2 of these, one for my husband and he is very pleased as well.

5AWESOME Andriod phone!!!!!!
By iluv2workout8
This Samsung galaxy S4 Mini is the PERFECT size! Phone runs flawlessly and very fast. This dual sim version does not have lte data speed BUT does have fast Hspa plus for my AT&T micro sim. This version does not have some of the features it's big brother has like air view, NFC and notification light but I'm ok with that. Over all a 5 star phone would highly recommend this Samsung Galaxy s4 mini dual sim smartphone.
