5Great phone! - Select the right model for your 3G data service
By Paul M. Hernandez
I bought this item from MobileCityOnline. Before buying, i contacted them to be sure that the model offered (GT-I8160L) was compatible with my operator's 3G data service and it was!. Please beware that there are two models for the Ace 2 where the only difference is the 3G band compatibility.

Model ------- 3G Bands support
GT-I8160 ---- 900/2100 MHz (Digitel in Venezuela for example. Most operators in Europe use these bands).
GT-I8160L --- 850/1900 MHz (AT&T in USA, Movilnet/Movistar in Venezuela for example. Most operators in the american continent use these bands).

At first blush the phone seems to perform great. Nice screen and resolution, android gingerbread (ICS comming soon) and vga front camera. Worth spending US$ 20-30 more in comparison to the ace and ace plus. Despite the price difference, the phone is still at a good price considering the specs provided.

You can't go wrong with this phone.

3Will NOT get 3G from T-mobile
By H.Evans
I bought this phone thinking what a great deal for a mid-range smartphone and then found out that it would not support the 3G from T-mobile. T-Mobile uses the 1700/2100 mhz frequency for their 3G network. You need the phone to support BOTH frequency in order to get 3G. Maybe AT&T supports the frequencies on this phone. Check with carrier before buying! I had to return this and get a different phone. Also, if you want the NFC enabled phone, make sure to get the i8160P version. P=NFC...no P means no NFC. Hope this helps!

4Great phone
By A. Ozman
Check with vendor the 3G/HSPA frequency. I understand vendors import from various countries. The unit I received was GT-i8160L, which seems to be designed for Latin America. Tech specifications available online indicate 900/2100 MHz for 3G (not 850/2100 MHz as Amazon states) so may not work with some operators in US.

5Great phone/tablet for the money!
By JJ
First of all this review is taken from the standpoint of value. There are things about this phone that aren't as good as the Galaxy Note 2 but then again you are only paying about $225 without a contract compared to $650.
The screen of the phone has a great resolution at certain angles, it gets kind of dark and shaded if you hold it at the wrong angle. To get the best picture, the top of the phone needs to be held slightly farther away from your face. Call quality is good and the phone is surprisingly smooth for only having a dual core processor.
The phone has a "reset" option that will clear out the RAM and generally help with the speed of the device, this should probably be done once a week. The phone actually has a fast "boot up" so it's not that bad. This won't delete any of your saved files just temporary stuff that you don't need.
It takes decent pictures and videos I am very critical in this respect so they are probably pretty good compared to some other devices. It says in the settings that it takes 8 megapixel photos but I haven't checked that yet.
It links well with the android marketplace using my existing Google login. It is large but let's face it, you know that when you buy it. It's not as user friendly as some higher end devices and it takes a little getting used to but I didn't mind it for the savings.
I am using it on AT&T and it works well with their edge data net. I am going to be changing to Straight Talk and I will update this review once I know how it works with that service, should be the same as AT&T. Overall this is a very nice phone for the money!

Update 1-7-13
Something else I should mention, and I apologize for not saying this sooner, I do not have 3G service where I live. I will be traveling to a 3G area this weekend and will update this with the results. Also if you buy this phone and have a hard time getting the data to work, give it time. It took the phone about a half hour to "learn" the IP and connect well for data. There should be shaded arrows in the signal strength indicator, if they are there it will work for you.

Update 1-15-13
I was in an area with 3g service this weekend and the phone changed to a different mode and began downloading faster. It has an 'E' displayed next to the signal strength indicator normally. It changed to an 'H' and started clocking 3g speeds. I also found an area where it changed to a 'G' and started working at even faster speeds. I'm not sure what that means, maybe 4g? I know the area has it but I didn't think this phone could use it. Don't take my word for it but the phone was downloading very quickly. That should be it for the updates, I will continue to answer questions in the comment area. Thanks for looking!

1WATCH OUT FOR THESE: (Test immediately)System settings lock up, Bluetooth Freezes Wi-fi works intermittently
By CK
WARNING: Do not Get stuck with a piece of crap! and waste endless frustrating days like I did as you may not test these issues UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE! CAVEAT EMPTOR (Latin for - buyer beware!)

FACTS:
1. I ordered this PADPhone 6.0" AMOLED Screen, Android 4.0.9 OS MT6577-1.2GHZ Black Color on February 23 2013 from Amazon for my Dad.
2. I am very familiar with the Android operating system: I own a Samsung Galaxy 2 bought couple of years ago, right here from Amazon.
3.I manage a android software development team for mobile application development. (by virtue of our work we techies tend to be more patient with technology when it comes to making it work).
4.Previously, I have ordered from Amazon and been very pleased with the products sold here till I placed this order based on the "Great Reviews".

QUESTION: Am I the only verified Amaazon buyer of PADPhone 6.0" AMOLED Screen, Android 4.0.9 OS MT6577-1.2GHZof who has documented these problems (since most others have written just GLOWING reviews????)

ISSUES:
WATCH OUT FOR THESE: (Test immediately)

1. CHECK YOUR SCREEN: I noticed that it appears to me as if the seller sent me a used product. (which I would even be glad to overlook considering the hours (days I have spent trying to get this piece of junk to work!). The charger tip seems slightly bent but I would have been willing to live with those superficial inconveniences provided the product performed as promised.
2. CHECK IF GPS TRULY WORKS: I downloaded several compass programs from Google Play Store and the GPS would not work (I have the same compass programs on my Samsung galaxy 2 working). I spent 5 days trying to trouble shoot it to no avail. Do not be fooled if google maps work because it uses cell towers for triangulation as a substitute gps. (DONT BE FOOLED BY GPS ICON blinking) verify that it WORKS!
3. TEST Wireless Connectivity ASAP: To this date I am fed up (today is April 9 2010. The wifi locks up and when it works it work intermittently. The settings screen lock up at the most inopportune time as well
4. BLUETOOTH CRAPS OUT: I've spent 2 DAYS trying everything to get it to work with ANY blue tooth device. It detects a bluetooth device intermittently and freezes ???
5. QUALITY: This product was not shrink wrapped. Batteries are wrapped like a piece of used chocolate in a silver foil---! Just how did this phone make it through quality control! May be I am dumb but I don't see a website, a tech support number! try a Google search on PadPhone! as of today April 9, 2010 there is HARDLY any support or search items to be found!

QUESTION: My question to you is How in the world are people giving glowing reviews for this product!!! Am I the only one who had a bad experience with this product? Are these reviews by individuals (who have posted positive reviews) truly verified Amazon buyers of this product?

Please do yourself a favor and atleast test the 4 of the 5 ISSUES that I have documented immediately upon receiving the PADPhone 6.0" AMOLED Screen, Android 4.0.9 OS MT6577-1.2GHZ (also is it really 1.2 Ghz??)

CONCLUSION: I am returning this product and I am very disappointed as I was mislead into believing that this was a good product when my experience has been clearly otherwise. I hope your experience is a positive one.

5Good phone, good product, depends on your patience and tech level.
By D. Sion
I order this phone with a little draw back due to lack of reviews. I own, Samsung Galaxy II and Samsung Galaxy, Iphone 3, so I have "been trained" to expect certain things and be able to put up with a lot of crap from the "big companies". Apple tights your hands behind, Sprint is not far from them, they ask you for more and more money for each functionality. T mobile used to be behind but a better company, nowadays.
So here is the new Pad Phone. Pretty big but GREAT for reading the WEB, We pay so much for premium and barely can see what is on the browser, slowly moving from page to page etc. Email and Internet is good to the device. The video player is great, 16:9/4:3 full screen and even more a little window pop up after you push the home sign, it stays on top and let you navigate and do other things inside the phone. Signal with a T mobile Sim is good. Camera is good as well. Do not expect a Canon quality it is a phone camera for God sake but enough for pics on the road and sharing great moment.
One thing you have to get it and accept: leave it alone when it is plug in, it just can not handle many function at that moment.
I think this is the reason that you are getting 2 battery for a good coverage of the day regardless of the plug in charge or not.
Would I recommend this phone? YES, I have no perks for writing this, but I am sick of all this big Corporations overcharging and on top of that keep you as a milking cow.

5Excellent phone
By Mr. Ben
(I would expect someone investigating purchasing a cell phone would do some price comparison, $700 for this phone is a bit steep.)

The Nexus S is an interesting phone. It is the sequel to Google and HTC's Nexus One (incorrectly regarded as a flop) and like the iPhone 4 it sets the bar for the current generation of smart phones.
I bought this phone on its release day, so I am very familiar with what it can do. I came from using a Nokia N900 Unlocked Phone/Mobile Computer with 3.5-Inch Touchscreen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, Maemo Browser, 32 GB--U.S. Version with Full Warranty which was another great unlocked phone. But this year alone has seen a lot of improvements in what phones can do.
The Nexus S, made by Samsung, is a gorgeous gadget. It is a little underwhelming in person, glossy all-black, but its a sleak package and it has some definite power under the hood. The 1GHz Hummingbird processor absolutely blows through apps, I have not experienced anything I would consider lag. I've encountered latency and bad apps, but those are not the phone's fault. The Gingerbread version of Android is a real stunner. I still read about issues with 2.2 (Froyo) and just have to shrug because this phone does very well with every app i've installed.
The camera(s) and other features function very well. The optics of this camera are not all that impressive, but the software behind the camera works very well and even resource hungry apps like Photoshop Express function very nicely on the Nexus S. As for displaying those pictures, this is one of the most beautiful displays on any phone. The "contour" glass is curved just enough to be comfortable when held up to your ear, and it separates it from all the "slabs". The glass coating is wonderful to touch and fingerprints wipe off without a lot of smearing.

One of the big gripes I've heard since this phone was announced was that it lacked an SD card. I was nervous stepping down to a 16GB phone after having 32GB plus an SD card slot on the n900, but now I do not miss it. The streaming apps (youtube, last.fm) do a great job of keeping me entertained and I've gotten quite good at plugging in to my computer every so often to move media onto and off of the device. An interesting thing to note: The 16GB is partitioned similar to a phone with SD card, So you have about 2GB of "root" space- where the apps and actual Android OS stay, and then the 14GB "SD" partition that will be unmounted when you connect your phone to a computer (if that didn't make sense to you, don't worry). You can move apps onto the "SD" partition. In short, I have not missed having a huge hard drive on this thing.

The other gripe is "No 4G" and this one is more of a "religious debate". We are only seeing the tip of 4G. Every carrier claims to have 4G service, but that's a debatable statement. Its pretty clear that carriers didn't even roll out 3G as much as they could have, so really we're waiting for proper high speed connection of any sort in most areas of the country. If you are one of the fortunate few who lives in 4G land, and you KNOW that you need extreme speeds NOW (and you won't travel anywhere, because then you're back to 3G or EDGE pretty quick) then this is not the phone for you. For the majority of people, 3G speeds are quite adequate for the majority of applications (both software and usage) that people will use, the phone is also 802.11 b/g/n compatible, so using wifi will improve your experience over many 4G connections. Consider also that you get tethering for free with this phone (a very nice feature that makes any Wifi device far more mobile so long as you have your Nexus S with you).

Now on to the Nexus S's unlocked status. Is it expensive to buy a phone without a contract? of course, you are only paying for the phone once. If you do the math it is cheaper in the long run (and you have more freedom) if you buy your phone and choose your carrier. Also take into consideration that Google will send the Nexus S Android updates before any other phone on any carrier gets them in the US. This shortcuts all the "fractured" issues with different manufacturers and carriers limiting your access to the latest Android software. This phone's usability will be extended because of it. There is no carrier in the way who will want you to upgrade to get the next batch of features for Android, instead you're plugged directly (or more directly) to the source. That is a big advantage.

UPDATE: Having now used this phone daily for a few months, I am still very pleased. The main comment complement I get when people notice the screen and just how good videos look on it (even rather low quality youtube videos). Having Gingerbread on here is a real treat (ha ha). Its a shame I can't recommend certain apps (like Google's Navigation or certain widget functionality) since its running a version of Android that isn't available to my other 'Droid brethren and I feel like a snob explaining how this is practically the only phone with the latest OS.

About the only thing I miss on this phone is an LED to indicate incoming messages when the screen is off. And I have noticed a weird quirk where the phone will randomly reboot itself. This is a known glitch that should be resolved with the next update to Gingerbread (2.3.3).

2Don't get fooled by the low price
By ranjith
There are many sites which display the model number as i9020 and ship i9023 instead.i9023 is a cheaper model(almost 100$ less) without the Super AMOLED screen which is the best feature of this phone according to me as the processor speed,RAM capacity are not as good as some of the latest dual core phones and this phone has a below average battery which lasts for only one day.I was expecting Amazon to be truthful to the customers and mention the display type in the product description. As the other clever websites, they also chose to misguide the customers by not including that part of the spec in the item description.Try calling the customer care and confirming about this item, you will receive only vague answers.

3it is not US, it is not Super AMOLED, it is not i9020
By erkam
I bought it just 2 weeks ago.

I bought it especially for its Super AMOLED screen.
But you should know that before buying:
There is actually 2 kinds of Nexus S:
i9020 (i9020a i9020t) and i9023

i9023 is the european version or non-USA/UK version. It has S-LCD screen. Worse colors, worse black.
google it and check example photos (I found some on flickr)
Super LCD variant is unable to display black color, it's just dark grey. More vivid colors are provided by Super AMOLED screen of i9020 variant.

As far as I know, this is the only difference. If you want to root your phone, it is important again.

Apart that,
This is another perfect phone by Google (despite Samsung).

4Beautiful Phone. Android for a blackberry addict.
By Dimitri
Before this phone I went through then NokiaE71, then moved to blackberries. I absolutely love the form factor and I really wanted a keyboard. I also wanted to try android because I didn't want to pay for BIS anymore.
Buying this phone I wanted it to do two things: Check email and live long on battery. It excels at both, and does much much more.

Start with the cons:
* Camera is abysmal, but pretty much on par with my old blackberry.
* Very low system space. This can be fixed a little, even without root, through using ADB to allow you to move bloatware to the SD card.
* A little slow with large games: I can play world of goo and temple run but some of the larger games will lag.
* The phone is not designed to be used in portrait mode much, but several apps only work in portrait, which means you have to hold your phone sideways.
* Tiny market for this phone so rooting it is not as easy as some other phones, and there are no custom roms out for it.
* Stock android phone app could be better, and no dialing from home screen.
* No central place for all incoming messages to go, sms and chat and email are all separate. This is a con of android v blackberry and not a fault of this phone.
* Alarms do not show up in agenda view. Again this is a fault of android, not the phone.

The Pros:
* Keyboard is great. Seemed odd at first, but broke in and became perfect.
* Touchscreen is small, but good! I have had no complaints about latency and what not.
* Looks and feels exactly like my blackberry did, people thought I never switched phones.
* Revives email very well, great for composing emails.
* Have taken phone to the beach several times and had no issues.
* Battery lasts forever -- several days -- and the screen is not always the main consumer of battery!
* Taken this phone out of the country to Europe and it worked like a charm.
* Ridiculously loud speakers, never missed an alarm with it.

This may not seem like a 4 star review, given all the cons, but it's the overall experience that I am rating. This phone does exactly what I wanted it to do, it replaces my blackberry. It may not be a flagship android beast, but it works, and it works well and reliably. My next phone probably will not have a keyboard, but I am glad this phone does. I would buy this phone again if it broke.

5This ones's pretty good
By H. C. Redondo
This phone has all I need. Especially the qwerty keyboard.
It's amazing to write on it. At first you feel it kind of slow, but after a week you get used to it, and becomes softer the more you use it.
The screen size is something I don't care too much about, but I'm pleased that the GB 2.3 works perfectly well with all apps on Play. Like the most important ones I mean.
The five stars is for the call buttons that makes the device, a CELLPHONE... not that big size screens with no buttons I don't really get used to.
The waterproof is good, but is not going to surf with your phone on the pocket... besides why would you surf with your cellphone.. I mean is surf.. but it works for like going on a walk and get wet and then clean it and then... you know, adventure.
The other good thing is the D-Pad that if you like to write like a professional, then it's a must because when you mistake, your thumbs are so big that it will press all the word instead of the letter you want to erase.
One thing I don't like is that there are some preinstalled apps that updates whenever you got into Internet connection and this I hate, because the device's memory is kind of small, so those updates steal some memory that could be free. For example Facebook or Google+. Dude.... you can't uninstall neither of them. NEITHER!
The last CON I have realized is the camera quality... I mean in dark places forget about it because it's pretty bad. In sunny days you can get good pictures and stuff but don't expect it to be like S4 or Iphone. Then I realized that with this app for the camera (Camera Zoom FX) you can get really good pictures and with a lot more settings like ISO and stuff.
But overall, it's a pretty good phone for that people that can't quit the buttons-phones and love something little and kind of cheap.
I wrote this on my XT560 (:
**excuse my english, I'm from Latam
* Other bad thing is this USSD code for prepaid lines of my country. I can't see how much is left in my account, I just have to call the service. But.... Bla

4LG Extravert QWERTY Touchscreen Smartphone
By S. Coil
I had an older version of this phone with met with a tragic end going through the washing machine so I went looking for the new version of this phone. I carry a iPhone for work so I really don't need a second one. With the QWERTY pullout key pad it does everything I need. If it were not red I would be even happier.

UPDATE: Last week, T-Mobile sent a patch to Android 4.1 Jellybean! I really like the subtle changes with 4.1, and the handset actually runs better with some apps. If you are on T-Mobile, be watching for it.

I have been living with the Optimus L9 for about 3 weeks, and so far I like it a lot. I have been a Samsung faithful for the last 3 handsets I've owned, so I was reluctant to give them up. I got the L9 sort of by accident (or at least unintentionally) when I was looking for a way to save money on my phone, and for when my contract was eligible for a new phone upgrade. I really wanted the Nexus 4, or Galaxy S2 or S3, but after I had gone through the different plan options and found the one that saved me the most money (you can't get a better deal for a wireless service than through T-Mobile), I found that those phones were more expensive than I could afford because I was on a Value Plan that you pay a down payment for a phone, then make payments on each bill. The rep suggested the L9 and said it was a really good phone, and I could get it basically for free with my plan, so I went for it, and now I'm glad I did.

The Optimus L9 is the upgrade to the Europe and Asia market L7 and the counterpart to the European and Asian L9 P760, which has a larger screen. The American-market L9 is the P769 only available on T-Mobile. The L9 is in a class by itself, a lot like the Exhibit 4G made by Samsung, which was also a budget mid-range device (I owned it and it's great). You could call the L9 the Optimus G's little cousin, but it has a ton of features that really don't belong on a sub-$100 phone. There are some impressive hardware specs here. Not the fastest or most cutting-edge, but good enough, and you can tell where LG cut corners to get the price down. There's no 8 megapixel camera, AMOLED high-res HD screen, quad-core processors, or exotic materials. What you get is in my opinion, the best budget phone out there. Period.

I like how it looks. It doesn't look like it's cheap. This is made by LG, and every LG handset I have owned has been top-notch in terms of build quality and ascetics. It is made entirely of plastic, but it's high quality with no creaks or gaps, looks really nice and feels very solid in the hand. The back is pretty bendy, but feels very sturdy and snaps back into place securely with no gaps. It isn't a small device, about 5" tall, 3" wide, but only .36" thick, not as thin as the GS3, but still impressively slim. It weighs under 5 ounces with the battery. It has a soft-touch battery cover with a texturing on it to make it easy to hold, and it has a chrome strip around the perimeter. The front is covered in Gorilla Glass 2 and is completely flush to the phone's frame. There are only 3 physical hardware buttons: the lock/unlock/power button, volume rocker/camera zoom, and home key, which is mounted flush with the glass. All the buttons feel very solid and don't require a lot of pressure to work, but enough so you don't accidentally push them. The large button functions as a "home" or task manager button with 2 capacitive soft keys for menus and return functions.

The software and hardware set of the L9 is impressive! It runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich v. 4.04 mixed with LG's UI and some add on's from T-Mobile, (which I didn't like). Everything is customizable and able to be personalized, menus, the lock screen, wallpapers, widgets, and home screens are all customizable, and all the menus and controls were easy to master. There will be a learning curve if you're coming from something like iOS or Android 2.2 or 2.3.6, but it's not hard to get the hang of it. The T-Mobile bloatware is extremely annoying. I was greeted by the Lookout app after every reboot and every app I downloaded. You can disable them, but you can't uninstall them. I really don't need things like T-Mobile TV, MediaHub, CMAS, Backup utilities, SmartShare, T-Mobile or LG's (I can't tell with) Smart Setup Wizard, T-Mobile Name ID (an optional paid subscription), Caller Tunes, Amazon, Bonus Apps, Chrome, Face Unlock, Contact Manager, GameBase, Google Play Music, Books, TV & Movies, Magazines, and Music, Google+, Lookout Security, More For Me, MobileLife, Social+, and Zynga. It really drove me a little crazy knowing I can't uninstall them without rooting the phone (and voiding the warranty). Messaging was a mixed bag. I am used to my Swipe keyboard and I fell in love with it, but was very disappointed with LG's version. It misspells words, grabs the wrong word, and often can't decide which word form to use, opting for a contraction other than a whole word. Very annoying when I need to text fast. Now I am back to mostly hunting-and-pecking like on my older Samsung phones.

The screen is a very nice capacitive 4.5" IPS LCD with qHD resolution of 960x540, 16 million colors, and 236 pixels per inch. Certainly not as good as the GS3, One S, or Note II, but for under $100 you won't get any better. The screen is responsive to my touches, very bright, and I was impressed with the viewing angles and how well it performed in sunlight. It is easily one of the brightest screens I've seen in a smartphone. The ppi might be a little low, but the fonts and pictures and icons looked great, nice and crisp. You could see pixels if you looked really close, but otherwise you couldn't. Inside there's a dual-core processor. It's a TI (yes, Texas Instruments) OMAP 4430 1 GHz with the ARM Cortex-A9 GPU. They are paired with 4 GB of internal memory, over half of which is preoccupied with the OS and preinstalled bloatware, so you actually get to use 1.8 GB of it for apps and things. On the plus, there's a MicroSD slot that will take a 32 GB card for expansion. The phone takes a micro-SIM card, and both the SIM and memory card are underneath the battery cover. I was really glad to see that the SD card is hot swappable (thanks T-Mobile).

For the camera you get a 5 megapixel unit with LED flash, plus a 1.3 MP front-facing camera. It records full HD 1080p video as well, not bad for a sub-$100 device! I am kind of picky about my handset cameras, and I found the camera to take pretty decent pictures overall. If you are switching from a basement 3.2 MP camera, you'll tell an immediate difference. You can definitely print these photos, and you'll be really happy with the results, but they aren't as refined as a comparable 5 MP Samsung camera on the Galaxy S line. Low light shots are very noisy and lack fine details that are present in shots in brighter conditions. The flash is a strobe-type LED that's decently bright and helps out indoor pictures, but outdoor shots in low light were still underexposed if your subject is more than 6 feet away. There is a decent assortment of photo tools and shooting modes to adjust to get the pictures how you want it, but not nearly as many as the Samsung or higher-end LG handset cameras. You can adjust things like white balance, ISO, exposure, color, image size (1, 3, 5 megapixels), image effects, shooting modes like portrait, sunset, panorama, and burst mode. There is also geo-tagging, smile shot, face detection, and a cool feature that snaps the picture when you say "cheese."

The camera has continuous auto focus, so it focuses when you pause on an object. The shooting performance is really good. From focus to preview takes about half a second. The camera definitely doesn't reflect it's price though and most everyone I know who has seen the pictures was really impressed. Video recording is also good. LG says 1080p at 24-30 FPS, and I concur that. The videos look pretty nice, way better than 720 or D1 found on cheaper handsets. You do get continuous autofocus, adjustable video resolution from VGA to full HD, and most of the same functions of the still camera like color effects, white balance, exposure, scene modes, and video effects called "live effects" like funny faces, and different backgrounds that were pretty neat. You can use the flash as a video light as well.

The battery is a 2150 MAh li-ion cell that you can remove and replace. I found to give pretty decent battery life. I got 2 days worth of using the web and calls before it was down to 10%.

Functionally, I was very impressed with the phone's performance. Even though it's "older" technology in the TI OMAP 4430 CPU and ARM Cortex-A9, it's definitely not low-end or slow. Even at 1 GHz, it's easily as fast as the 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 CPU in the Galaxy S2. I never had a problem with lagging, freezing, crashing, or choppiness when viewing web pages with Flash content, and scrolling as very smooth. I like to use my phone with mobile Bible apps like Logos, Faithlife, and YouVersion, which put stress on the phone when viewing pages full screen on a large screen, but I never experienced any issues. Google Maps and the Navigation used to really stall and trip my Exhibit up (even causing crashes), but not the L9! Web browsing with Dolphin was excellent, one of the best web experiences I've had with a phone. I was nothing short of impressed with the snappiness of this handset! The back did get warm under heavy CPU use though, but not enough to be alarming.

Call quality was excellent. Voices came in loud and clear and I never heard any complaints from callers. The audio performance was a little rough though as the speakerphone was very tinny and sharp sounding at high volume, which I will say is really loud. The same translated to movies and music as well, which hurt audio quality. Reception was also great on T-Mobile. I got good reception everywhere I went, even in dead-spots for other phones. For data connectivity, the L9 runs on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 4G network. However, you don't get access to the full 42 MBPS data rates you get with the Galaxy S, S2, HTC One S, and Galaxy S3. This phone runs on the "slower" 21 MBPS modem, but that's not a huge deal as I would get about 5-7 MBPS up and 1-4 MBPS down. Not blazing fast, but good enough for most every need I had. Not really a huge concern to me because I don't have a ton of apps, but because this has ICS, you can't move or save apps to the external memory. For some, the internal storage would get filled quickly and make installing new apps impossible. A patch to Jelly Bean would rectify this, but I can't see that happening any time soon, if ever.

So that's the L9. It's about as good as you can get for the price, something no other carrier can claim. The L9 was designed to fill an extremely important spot in T-Mobile's handset hierarchy, the space between the low-end, budget phones and the high-end flagship handsets. Their first venture into the gap was the Exhibit 4G, which I thought was pretty good. All of the flagship devices will set you back a pretty penny even with a 2-year subsidized contract, and are stupid-expensive when purchased off-contract ($600 and up). The L9 can be had for $80 on contract, $369 off, and is even more manageable when on a Value Plan. I pay less than $20 for both handsets on my monthly plan, and I will be able to upgrade in 20 months. I have no reservations saying the L9 will keep me happy for a couple years!

Pros:

Android ICS with un-intrusive LG UI
Dual core CPU
Hot swappable expandable MicroSD storage
Removable battery
1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage
5 MP camera with flash
1080p video recording
Nice 4.5" qHD IPS screen
Gorilla Glass 2 front
Very high quality materials
Excellent build quality
Great call quality

Cons:

Over 2 GB of internal storage occupied by the OS and bloatware
Lots of annoying bloatware that can't be removed
Can't save or move apps to SD card
Camera could be better
Battery life is only average
Horrible LG "swipe" keyboard

It's not perfect, and it's obvious that LG had to cut some corners to keep the price low. There's no 8 MP camera with lots of functions, high-end processor, 8 or 16 GB internal storage, or super-high resolution screen. The camera could be better, so could the data speeds, and the loudspeaker needs some work, but for what it is, I can't find a better handset out there. I'm a Samsung faithful and have always had Samsung handsets after a poor experience with my LG Viewty KU990, but I would chose this over the Galaxy S2 on the basis of value. I can confidently say that you won't find a better value for the dollar out there.

1Avoid Until an UpdateIs Available
By Ryan Sondalle
I'll leave my original review down below but here is my updated change to a 1 star. LG and T-mobile have released Android 4.1.2 jellybean and it has ruined WiFi. By ruined i mean you will not have the option to use WiFi on this phone, it will not function. Neither LG nor T-mobile give a crap about the issue and they refuse to fix the issue, so until they decide to fix it I would not recommend anyone buy this phone. If they do ever fix it my review below explains how it is alright, but without WiFi this is junk! Thanks for nothing T-mobile and LG.

----
I'm going to start with the negatives because people have an extreme lack of knowledge regarding the negative areas and how they reflect to the phone.
Cons:
1. Camera, it's pretty crappy quality compared to what's out there today, but people forget that this phone is $200 or less with no contract. The phones they compare it to cost $200 with a contract ($600+ phones without a contract). You can't compare a Hyundai to a BMW folks.
2. No apps to SD card. This is annoying, but this is googles fault not LG's. When they developed android 4.0 they stopped letting you move apps. Also this is a budget phone. And 2gb is enough for your basic apps. if you need music you can load that directly to your SD card using your pc, which is really the point behind the SD card.
3. Random features it doesn't offer. This is a Miscelleaneous category basically to address the fact that people constantly come up with random stuff this phone can't do. this is a $200 phone, not a $600 phone. don't get mad that the $600 phone has capabilities that this doesnt. You get what you pay for.

Pros:
1.Battery life. My phone usually runs over 1 full day before charging (with me stopping to charge around 20% of the battery left). My nexus s died after 5 hours of mediocre use.
2.Speed.the phone just processes quickly. on basically everything.
3.Price. This phone is $200 without a contract. My old phone was $150 with a 2 year contract i then paid $8 a month for insurance, and when it broke after a year and a half of use (completely on its own, it wouldnt turn on) i had to pay $100 claim form. altogether i paid $394 for a phone that's a piece of junk and could never do what this phone does. The only thing the other phone could do better was take pictures.

Hands down this is the best phone in its price class. It can keep up to the expensive phones, but obviously is not quite as good. But when you say you can get a $200 phone with no contract that does as good of a job as a $600 phone, that's impressive. The savings in the long run alone make this phone worthwhile.

5great deal for the price
By K. Langalia
SUMMARY. I have owned the phone since 3/1/13 and it has exceeded my expectations. I paid for 200$ for it and I am not going to expect this phone to have features that 700$ phones have. This is the only phone that is both "Brand Name" and has 4.0 OS.

Link to Manufacturer site. [...]
PROS
-Light, Thin, Large dialing buttons, camera flash (could be life saver)

CONS

-Camera is okay at best. Once you learn to click and tell the camera what you want to focus on, the pictures improve.
-Physical (click click) HOME button. It is matter of time before dirt / water gets in there.
-LG and Tmobile have loaded it with crap / bloat ware. You can remove some things but not all. The phone is still not slow.

DETAILED FEEDBACK BY DATE. I would like to come back and update this as I learn more but no promises.

3/1/13 - I purchased this phone directly from tmobile's prepaid phone website for 200$. It meets the intial expecations. Large dialing buttons. 4.0 is stable OS and there is hardly anything missing as compared to 4.1.

UPDATE 4/15/13 .. All the initial feedback is still true.
Camera results are much improved once I learnt to be a little patient with it. The voice shutter function is not consistent. This could be a user error.

Few things I learnt.
Press power and home button together to do a quick screen capture.

5great phones
By Richard M.
these phones worked just as advertised, and stayed unlocked after i updated the IOS. Many people attempt to sell jail broken phones, and call them "unlocked", these are the real deal " factory unlocked" phones.

Phone was bought with the express understanding that it was FACTORY unlocked. That is not the case, and so I am unable to use it all this time. Further, the battery is as good as dead.

4Closest I could come to what I was looking for
By Uchi
My preference would have been to stick with my old phone, but after 6 or so years of regular use, it died and had to be replaced, so I got this one a couple of weeks ago.

I wanted another small-form, clamshell phone with a long battery life, good sound quality, and an alarm feature.

This phone is slightly longer than the old phone, but thinner and narrower. The battery life is rated as about the same or better than the phone it is replacing, although I'm not sure yet whether the real-world battery life is as long as what was advertised. (I certainly don't have to recharge it every day, though.) It does include the alarm feature I needed. Sound quality is adequate, not great (I would rate the quality of the earpiece speaker at about 6 or 7 out of 10 stars -- very slightly garbled voices at times, not perfectly clean and crisp, and it's necessary to work to position the phone just right to get the best volume at your ear). Mobile phone signal reception seems as good as the phone it was replacing.

The main feature I miss is the absence of any window showing who is calling when the phone is ringing -- it's necessary to open the case to see who is calling. At least it is possible to adjust the settings so that the phone only answers a call when you press the accept button (the default setting is to answer as soon as the cover is raised).

This phone's case is not as durable as that of the phone it is replacing, which had an almost rubberized feel to the case. I accidentally dropped the new phone last night on the garage floor, and the outside of the case shows a few tiny scratch marks already. The few times I dropped my old phone, it never showed scratches.

It was also a pain in the rear to get the messaging and internet features activated with my carrier. Carriers provide lots of info on how to set up the latest smartphones, but virtually no info on how to set up those features on phones with older technology, like this one. The manufacturer's website provided no help whatsoever, since they apparently did not intend for this phone to be used by US carriers. (The manufacturer's website does provide detailed info on how to set up this or very similar model phones for use on carriers outside the US, though.) It took several hours of internet searching, messaging, and calls to my carrier, but eventually I was able to get it all sorted out.

I would have preferred a phone with US warranty, but Amazon was only selling the silver version of the phone with US warranty at the time of my purchase, while I wanted the black version (which came with no US warranty). So far, the phone I received seems to be working well, so I am not as concerned about needed warranty-type servicing.

However, apart from the issues with setting up the phone for use with US carriers that I previously mentioned, another issue is that the phone I received did not include a US-type charger in the box; it came with a charger that seems to be a British-style plug (as I believe is used in Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam). Someone, apparently the seller opened the box to add a bulky adaptor to accommodate the foreign charger to US electrical sockets. I would much have preferred that the seller had simply added a US-type adaptor to the outer packaging (or, better yet, had added a regular US charger cord, instead of a non-US cord plus a large, clunky adaptor), rather than opened the manufacturer's original case, since in this age of widespread identity theft, there is no telling what security issues are raised once the original manufacturer's case has been breached. Buyers would feel more comfortable with their purchase, given all of that, if the description of the item in the ad mentioned that the case would have been opened to add an adaptor.

Overall, I would purchase this phone again, but probably would opt for the US warranty phone, despite the color, next time.

Update (March 31, 2013): Phone has been working well. I dumped the original non-US charger/clunky adaptor and now just use a US charger that I had from a different piece of electronic equipment (obviously, using non-approved components like this isn't recommended, but there's no warranty anyway). Battery life is much longer than even with my old phone, so I am happy on that score. The only real, but minor, complaint now (aside from wishing there were a window showing who incoming calls are coming from) is that it would be nice to be able to raise the volume of the ear speaker higher. I find that with some callers I have to position the phone just right or it can be a bit hard to hear the caller clearly.

5so far so good...
By Zoraida Haibi
I bought this phone for my husband since his other phone is completely obsolete and about 5 years old. He started using it and already I am impressed with the phone. He says he has to get use to the phone and the options, but he already stated he can hear everyone MUCH better and I can definitely hear him better too. The volume for the music on his MicroSD card is fantastic and so glad it came with earpieces so he can now listen privately to all his music.

5Slick flip-phone
By Richard Wyckoff
I got these phones for me and my wife. All we want is to talk plus I use the Calendar for reminders. Also look forward to getting local SIM cards when we travel abroad. This phone is great: nice big clear display and really good battery life. I have a pre-pay plan so can't take advantage of the data possibilities. Highly recommend.
